259.101 Sandy lowlands

Sandy lowlands:

Elevation: 0
Complexity: 3
Time to cross 3 hours

Emerging from the tall grass a vast sandy expanse meets your gaze. where the grass provided ample cover this area provides none. This appears to be some form of tidal basin. Travel is easy in this area though areas of deep mud need to be avoided.

Weather:

The  high temp is 72 Degrees , it is foggy in the  morning, but clear by noon, there is a breeze from the  north  at 8 mph. Over night the  temp drops to 38 degrees.

Vista:

  • These lowlands do not offer great visibility of the surrounding terrain.
    • North the tallgrasses and sandy  march  trail away to the  horizon.
    • South: the  land rises steadily walking to the top of a dune you can just make out a forest.
      • south east and East: Huge sandy dunes rise on the  horizon the  wind whips up large clouds of sand which  curl and rise into the sky giving the  horizon an eerie yellow tint in the mornings and afternoon.
    • West: To the  west is a sea of reeds and tall grasses with the  land rising steadily towards a forest barely visible beyond.

Tiny crabs scurry from tuft of grass to piles of rocks. It is clear the sea must reach this far inland on occasion, perhaps in times of great storm.

Obvious features:
  • Large [6 foot crossed] sea bird nests. Complete with very large sea birds.
  • Small streams [not wide enough to boat] running into the  pain form the  higher land to the  south. They cut deep channels as they meander towards the  sea.
  • Many animal tracks in the mud.

258.101 Foundation

The Foundation,

While moving up slope the party uncovers what looks to be an old foundation.  The whole thing seems to be slightly crooked and facing down slope like it may have subsided into this position over the years.

It is 10 foot wide and 12 foot long, made of the local stone and seems quite old. There  are no signs of walls or a roof, except the  rubbish and debris which have collected inside the foundation it's self.

The rocks making up the foundation are moss covered and weather worn. They were laid up by collecting stone and fitting them in place, without the use of mortar.  The floor of the  foundation which is done in a similar manner lies about three feet below the level of the surrounding land.

As stated above the whole area of the foundations interior is cluttered with  dead / rotten vegetation and a build up of soil.

258.101 (The grassy climb)

 258.101

Listed elevation: 0 sea level but rising.
Complexity  5 (tall grass many boulders , difficult terrain.)

Nearby hexes have higher elevations so the terrain must be climbing up away from the beach in a grassy  rocky scramble. High stalk's of  marsh grasses and bamboo like trees are all around. The vegetation is thick and hard to see through. The team quickly looses site of the ship as they walk inland.

A feeling of quiet isolation befalls the  party as they move up the  gentile slope. Insects buzzing about and  the  occasional sounds of exotic birds are all that greet your ears. Small talk concerning the  adventures ahead break the silence.

The  weather is fine for walking but getting  cooler as the  sun dips lower.

The Vista:

  • North: To the  North the  sea is still on the horizon as you  climb steadily the ship recedes from view blocked out by a sea of tall grasses.
  • West: To the  west the  grassy marsh extends outward as far as your team can see.
  • South: :To the  south The terrain climbs steadily (about 1100 feet in elevation crossed 7 miles. a gentile 3% grade) the  thick shore grasses begin to thin out on the  southerly border giving way to the larger slower growing tress of a proper forest.
  • East: To the  east  One can catch glimpses of the rolling dunes of a vast sandy beach.
Obvious features:
  • Tall grass
  • very tall Bamboo like trees.
  • small game trails
  • A 10 foot by 12 foot stone foundation covered in grass and moss sitting precariously on a slope.
